About Jacob

Service. Practice. Place. — the three threads behind the work.

I came into real estate the way most people come into the homes they buy — through a long journey that taught me what mattered, and what didn't.

What I bring to this work is the convergence of three threads: a career in service, a practitioner's experience with real estate as an asset class, and an unusually broad lived experience of the places I now serve. Service. Practice. Place.

Do whatever it takes, and keep your word to the people who are trusting you.

On service

Service.

My career began in the United States military, where ten years of service took me from Hinesville and Savannah, Georgia, to Vilseck, Germany, and through the kind of relocations that teach you the logistics and emotional weight of a move in ways civilian movers rarely understand. Military service is also where I learned the disciplines I bring to my work today: meticulous preparation, respect for the people depending on me, and the conviction that the details actually matter.

I was raised by a single mother of two, and watched her overcome every obstacle life threw her way. Her resilience taught me something I've carried into every chapter since: do whatever it takes, and keep your word to the people who are trusting you. That's the foundation I bring to every client relationship I'll build.

I'm not just a broker representing a transaction. I'm a fellow practitioner who understands ownership from the inside.

On practice

Practice.

Real estate, for me, began with practice before it became profession. Before I joined the Pearson Realty Group as a broker, I was a landlord and property manager myself — navigating the day-to-day realities of ownership, maintenance, tenancy, and the long arithmetic of building wealth through real estate. I bring that operator's perspective to every conversation. When I advise a first-time buyer, I'm telling them what I've actually learned from owning. When I work with an investor, I'm reading the same numbers they're reading because I've sat on their side of the table.

This is the framework that distinguishes how I approach real estate: I'm not just a broker representing a transaction. I'm a fellow practitioner who understands ownership from the inside, partnering with clients who are making the same kinds of decisions I've made myself.

I don't just know the listings; I know the neighborhoods.

Place.

Jacob Capeles with his family

I've lived in nearly a dozen Illinois neighborhoods — from Logan Square and Humboldt Park to Mount Prospect, and now Northbrook, the North Shore community I'm proud to call home.

That breadth of lived experience shapes how I understand the markets I serve. I don't just know the listings; I know the neighborhoods. I've walked the streets, eaten at the corner restaurants, met the neighbors. When clients are choosing between Glenview and Northbrook, or weighing Deerfield against Highland Park, I'm drawing on actual life experience rather than data from a screen.

My focus today centers on the North Shore — Northbrook, Deerfield, Glenview, Highland Park, and the surrounding communities — with deep familiarity in the Chicago neighborhoods many of my clients are moving from.

A note on how I work.

I'm building my real estate practice with the same standards I held in service: small numbers of clients, attended to fully. The decisions you're making — where you live, where you raise your family, where you invest — are among the most significant decisions you'll ever make. They deserve a broker who treats them that way.

If you're considering buying, selling, or investing in real estate on the North Shore, in the Chicago suburbs, or in the city itself, I'd welcome the chance to talk. You can reach me directly at (224) 355-6641, or send a note through the contact page.
